Welcome to my page of all things clay that I make. I recently came across this hobby in winter of 2020 and fell in love, I’ve always found clay interesting but never had the opportunity to create. Then I learn about AirDry clay in 202 0 and that’s when my heart and eyes opened up. I started by making Airdry Fairy Houses:
These where a fun little project that was great for the winter Covid-19 blues, as you could paint the houses however you wanted. No one house was ever the same given a uniqueness to each one.
Also during the time of making fiary houses I also make gnomes:
These where also a paint your own fun project. Did you know a gnome /noʊm/ is a mythological creature and diminutive spirit in Renaissance magic and alchemy, first introduced by Paracelsus in the 16th century and later adopted by more recent authors including those of modern fantasy literature. Its characteristics have been reinterpreted to suit the needs of various story tellers, but it is typically said to be a small humanoid that lives underground. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnome)
However decent clay that doesn’t crack and crumble along with cost a arm and leg can be a challenge. Sometimes I had to wait weeks before I could get more clay to make my items, so I knew I had to find another way, maybe a homemade clay.
Then it dawned on me, there are so many different types of homemade clay’s out there, and everyone has its own goods and bad’s based on what you want to create. Here is a link to a great blog that talks about some different clay’s. When looking on Pintrest about ideas and inspiration I learnt about flowers that people made out of clay and I was blown away from their talent and had to learn more.
I created flowers for some friends and grow and learnt more tricks and tips each Rose that I made, now it has been 4 months later and I believe I have grown alot below is one of my most recent flowers:
These flowers are made out of a airdry clay called “Cold Porcelain” and their are many different recipes online for them. One great thing is the ingredients are easy to find at your local grocery store.
My original flowers where bridle to the touch and could easily break if dropped, however I am working on a new recipe that is flexible, a bonus to this recipe is that I can ship flowers all over and they wont break, another added feature is, when customers go to put the flowers in their vase, if the leaves are in a weird spot, they also will not break.
I am still working on getting the right colour for the foliage, and the right technique that works for me, I know it will come one day, just need practice and patients.
I am currently only creating roses at the time and have done many different colours. If you would like to purchase a rose please contact me below.
Thank yo ufor reading this post. Stay safe and healthy.
